You’ve got a decent website, you’ve done some marketing, and people are clicking through. But for some reason, the phone isn’t ringing as much as it should. Or maybe people start the quote process and then vanish. So what’s going on?
It’s not always obvious, but potential customers are dropping off — quietly and quickly — at specific points in their journey. And often, the reasons are surprisingly fixable. Here’s where those leaks are happening, and how you can patch them up.

1. Bad Mobile Experience
Most people looking for movers are doing it from their phone. Maybe they’re sitting on the couch at night, maybe they’re at work sneaking a quick search — either way, if your website isn’t mobile-friendly, you’re losing them fast.
What does that actually mean?
- Slow load times – If your site takes longer than 3 seconds to load, half your visitors are already gone. Compress your images. Use a simple theme. Check your site speed on free tools like PageSpeed Insights or GTmetrix.
- Tiny text and buttons – If someone has to pinch and zoom or squint to find the “get a quote” button, you’ve already lost the sale.
- Confusing navigation – Keep it stupid simple. Your homepage should have a giant button that says “Get a Free Quote” — not some hidden link in a dropdown menu.
- Forms that don’t work well on mobile – If your quote form is clunky or asks for too much info, simplify it. Ask for name, phone, move date, and basic move info. That’s enough to start.
2. Slow Replies
People want quick answers. Period. Especially when they’re stressed about moving.
According to research, leads are 21 times more likely to convert if you reply within 5 minutes. That’s not a typo.
Obviously, you’re busy. You might be on a job or driving the truck yourself. But that’s why automations exist.
- Use a form auto-responder that immediately says: “Thanks for reaching out — we’ll be in touch shortly. In the meantime, here’s a little more about how we work.”
- Set up Google Business Messages so people can message you from your profile, and you can reply right from your phone.
- Consider a call answering service if you’re missing too many phone calls. Even just someone taking a message politely can be the difference between booked or bounced.
3. Confusing Quotes
If your quote looks like a mystery math puzzle, you’re scaring people off.
Potential customers don’t always know the lingo. They don’t know if “1 load/unload hour per 2-man team + $45 fuel surcharge + time to/from depot” is good or bad. They want clarity.
Here’s how to fix it:
- Break it down clearly – Label each cost in plain language. (Example: “2 Movers for 2 hours = $200. Truck fee = $50. Fuel = $25. Total = $275.”)
- Give ranges, not exacts, if needed – Say something like, “Most 2-bedroom apartment moves take 2–3 hours, so your total should be around $300–$450.”
- Include a short explanation of how billing works – People want to know if they’re paying per hour, if there’s a deposit, etc.
- Bonus: offer quote formats people understand – A quick text or PDF works better than a Word doc with a contractor template. Use your logo. Make it friendly.
4. Lack of Trust Signals
If someone’s on your site and unsure whether to contact you, trust can tip the scale.
Add these to your site:
- Customer reviews – Copy and paste your Google reviews right onto the homepage.
- Real photos of your crew and truck – Stock photos don’t inspire confidence. A snapshot of the team in branded shirts goes a long way.
- Certifications or insurance – Show that you’re licensed and insured. Even a small badge that says “Fully Insured” adds credibility.
- Before and after photos – A few shots of neat, well-packed trucks, or clean move-outs, are great.
- Your city name clearly mentioned – People trust local companies. If you’re in Thomasville or Charlotte, make that obvious.
Fixing these small things can lead to major gains. It’s easy to get tunnel vision on your own site, though. Ask a friend — one who will tell you the truth — to go through your site like a customer. Where do they get stuck? What’s annoying or unclear? That fresh perspective can reveal what you’re blind to.
